Creating a Return Receipt on Outlook Express 5

  1. Launch Outlook Express 5
  2. Go to Tools > Accounts
  3. Create a new "send only" account (enter only the required SMTP information).
  4. Click the Options tab
  5. Set the Additional Headers section as follows:

This should work using it when you want return receipts and using your standard account for when you don't.  Please note that there is nothing in the agreed Internet e-mail specifications which forces mail servers or mail clients to honour your request for a return receipt.  Many corporate LAN systems with Internet gateways (like MS Exchange) tend to do it, since they often offer the feature internally.  Most dial-up ISPs do not support this feature.
